The Franchise Company, a Darlington based firm of specialist franchise advisors and consultants, is seeing a 50% increase in enquiries as firms around the country look to expand their businesses via franchising.

The growth in demand for franchising advice is being driven by businesses recognising that despite the current economic difficulties they have to move forward, and as a result of redundancies especially in the public sector there are some good prospective franchisees looking to take control of their future and franchising offers a far greater chance of success.

The Franchise Company is one of the UK's largest and most experienced independent specialist franchise consultancy practices, which has placed it firmly at the forefront of the market for businesses looking to expand via franchising.

12 months ago, The Franchise Company was typically receiving 3 or 4 enquiries a week, which has grown to around 5 or 6 a week in the last 3 months.

The increase in enquires has seen some Northern based companies recently take the decision to expand their businesses via franchising in the New Year. The Franchise Company has clients throughout the UK and as far away as Thailand.

Ken Rostron, director of The Franchise Company, said: "Franchising is a great way of expanding a business and brand by bringing investment and commitment from franchisees. We have been advising on franchise development for 20 years and this recent increase in enquiries is a genuine spike in demand. The number of successful franchise opportunities that are now available has significantly increased over the last 20 years.

"While investment from the more mainstream sources, such as the banks, is harder to come by, individuals are leaving the public sector in large numbers and often with significant redundancy packages.

"As well as being in a position to invest in a franchise, franchisees bring the commitment that is necessary to get any business'off the ground' because they benefit directly from their efforts and are generating both an income and creating a future asset for themselves.

"We have also seen an increase in potential franchisees looking for investment opportunities and trying to find the right franchisor to suit their needs.

Rick Petini, owner of Delcor Furniture Ltd, in Seaton Delaval, Newcastle, has been working with The Franchise Company to set up a franchise package for his expansion plans, which also has a store in Chelsea's King's Road.

He said: "We wanted to expand the business faster and we found that franchising our company offered a good solution, which is great for us and also for the franchisee who can start a business with a well respected name and brand.

"Working with The Franchise Company has been a great experience and we are all looking forward to the New Year. We cannot predict how many franchises we will eventually have, but we are working towards having a number across the UK and maybe even abroad.

"A franchise package may cost between £60,000 and £70,000, which includes the Delcor name, showroom stock and staff training to help the franchisee get off to the best possible start with their new franchise.
