Legal Updates in Franchising 2024

Date Added: 11 March 2024 12:03 pm Topics Covered:
  • BFA
  • franchising
  • franchise agreement
  • franchise expansion

Based on the experience of attending the 2024 BFA legalities and ethics seminar on 8th March 2024, we’d strongly recommend that all franchisors attend future events to get an update and full insight into the legal changes impacting franchising and franchise agreements.  It also provides guidance and practical application to support healthy franchise relationships including:

  • Recent changes in case law (Body Shop and Drain Doctors cases covered)
  • Likely legislative changes in 2024
  • Management of legal disputes
  • Employment legislation changes and risks
  • Managing marketing funds effectively
  • Franchisee recruitment, onboarding & ongoing support in line with the agreement
  • Franchisor technology systems and development for network support
  • Dispute resolution systems – what to include in your agreement and how to manage this.
  • Mediation – the British Franchise Association is introducing a new mediation system in 2024 and this will be covered in our June First Friday session on Friday, June 14th where our guest is Russell Ford – Partner at IBB Owen White Solicitors who has been involved in franchise mediation for many years and has worked with the BFA on the development of the new programme. Make sure you sign up for future First Friday events on our website to get your invite when the event goes live.

For more useful insights, visit our First Friday Events.

The British Franchise Association Annual Legal and Ethics event looks at how the changes in legislation will potentially impact franchisors legally and operationally and how changes may need to be made to operations manuals and agreements to ensure that the suite of franchise documentation is consistent with the day to day operating practises of the business. There’s no point having clauses in your agreement that don’t accurately reflect what you do – if you need any help reviewing your manuals in line with your agreements or vice versa please contact us for an initial discussion about how we can help with that. We’ve produced hundreds of manuals for all types of sectors and brands and have a huge bank of materials that we can refer to if your manual needs some updating and/or development.
